Aunt ree owned a beauty parlor called rita lynn's beauty nest,
where mommie used to change my hair from the regular mess.
with perms, and rollers, grease and a straigtening comb,
she would tame my kinks and pull on my dome.

"oh, be still chile, you know this doesn't hurt,
was her favorite comment as she went about her work.
my hair would be a nappy mess when i sat in her chair,
but after she worked her magic, i was the prettiest girl there.
 
 

I would have shirley temple curls all over my head,
the envy of all the other girls, yes there was nothing to be said.
after all my complaining and moving around,
no straighter or bouncier hair could be found.

Than those wonderful curls cleo put on her baby's head,
but to get my hair like that was something i dread.
i was tenderheaded and still am to this day,
i still love the results of this punishment, guess i'm made that way..
 
 

the shop would be full of ladies deep in conversation,
about various topics but always others relations.
aunt ree would be working her magic and styling on back,
she was the best and her customers knew and so they sat.

waiting on their turn to get in her chair,
So Rita "herself" could fix their hair.
Henrietta would color your hair anyway you liked,
but if it wasn't to your liking don't blame her or there might be a fight.
 
 

Yes, I remember when mommie did hair at the beauty nest,
those beauticians had a rep, girl they were the best.
Aunt ree retired from her shop and went on to teach at tech,
I know people she taught how to perm, color and roller set.

Henrietta always worked at revelon anyway,
i wonder if she is still there or retired today?
Mommie became a school teacher and did hair on the side,
she retired a few years back and in the south she resides.

Thoses memories i keep of them all so vivid and clear,
